Edit/Delete Comments on Issues

The inability to edit or remove comments after they are created can create significant challenges in project environments where comments may contain incorrect, incomplete, or inadvertently submitted information.

In document control and project collaboration workflows, comments are often used to communicate technical instructions, contractual positions, review decisions, or clarification requests. If a user mistakenly submits a comment with inaccurate information, typographical errors, incorrect document references, or statements that do not reflect the intended position of the reviewer, the comment becomes a permanent part of the issue history.

This can lead to several risks:

• Misinterpretation of project decisions by other stakeholders.
• Conflicting instructions within the same issue thread.
• Potential contractual disputes when comments are considered part of the project record.
• Additional effort required to create corrective comments, which may not always eliminate ambiguity regarding the original statement.

While maintaining an auditable history is extremely important, many enterprise collaboration platforms address this requirement by allowing comment editing and deletion while preserving a complete audit trail. For example, edited comments can display an "Edited" indicator, and deleted comments can remain visible in audit logs available to administrators.

A possible enhancement would be to allow users to edit or delete their own comments, while recording the original content, timestamp, user information, and modification history for audit purposes. This approach preserves traceability while providing the flexibility needed to correct mistakes and prevent misunderstandings.

Such functionality would improve the reliability of issue discussions and reduce the risk of contractual or technical conflicts arising from comments that were submitted in error.
