Import Comments from External PDF Review Tools into Bentley PDF Reviewer

When PDFs are reviewed in third-party applications like PDF-XChange or Bluebeam, their comments and markups often cannot be brought into Bentley’s PDF Reviewer. This creates extra work for teams who need to consolidate feedback from multiple sources.

The idea is to add a feature that allows importing comments and annotations from these external tools into Bentley PDF Reviewer. This would make collaboration across different platforms easier and reduce manual effort in transferring feedback.

Use Case:
A design review package is circulated among stakeholders. Some reviewers use Bluebeam to add detailed comments, while others work in Bentley PDF Reviewer. Currently, the project team must manually re-enter Bluebeam comments into Bentley to maintain a single source of truth. With this feature, all comments could be imported directly, saving time and ensuring accuracy.

Value:

  • Improves interoperability with widely used PDF review tools.

  • Makes cross-platform collaboration straightforward.

  • Eliminates manual comment migration, reducing errors and delays.

    Hi all,

This capability already exists in the Markup tool. Markups and comments created in other PDF applications, including Bluebeam, can be displayed when the PDF is opened in the Markup tool. While these externally created annotations are viewable, they cannot be edited within the Markup tool. Look for the filter to turn them on.
